Crisis on the Planet of the Apes is an action virtual reality game. Based on the recent series of movies detailing the rise of intelligent apes, this game tells a new tale of escape and war.
While the new prequels to the classic film told an engaging and emotive story, Crisis on the Planet of the Apes is a poorly designed mess of a game. This contrast is all the more disappointing for the few glimpses of interesting mechanics littered throughout the experience. Set between the Rise and Dawn films, Crisis on the Planet of the Apes explores the time when the apes are escaping and humanity is starting to fall apart. You play as an intelligent ape escaping from a military facility with others, battling human guards with guns and explosives. The usual VR issues of awkward movement and unnatural gun-play are throughout with some extra lacklustre graphics and dull gameplay for extra measure. Despite the fact that the story is well-written, everything else falls apart within the first ten minutes.
Crisis on the Planet of the Apes is a sub-par game. Hardcore fans of the Apes films may wish to play for the new story but it will be a battle against boredom.
